Fighting Game?

I was thinking of making a "Sonic the Hedgehog" fighting game of just our custom characters, kind of in the style of a 2D Tekken game? What do you guys think?

I think you mean Street Fighter, since Tekken's actually a 3D fighter but yeah, it sounds like fun.

I meant like Tekken, but 3D haha. I've never played Street Fighter, but now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure that that's the style I'd be going for if I remember it from what I've seen.

Also, do either of you have any skill in art, spriting, animation, music, or programming to help me out? If not it's fine, I can do it myself, it would just be quicker and would probably seem cooler to you guys if you got to help out in it.

Well, I'm sure you'll be great for a bigger part of the game design that I'm not good at, making up special moves for the characters.

Alright, well, I think I might just start getting into spriting now to create the sprites for my characters.

Buuuut, I do wanna see what kind of sprites you have in mind to use, since I don't want to end up having sprites that look completely different from the rest.

Okay, this is what we currently have set up:

It will be a Street Fighter style game (or a 2D version of Tekken type of game)

There will be an energy bar that is used up for special attacks, and it will be refilled by landing attacks on enemies and taunting.  You can also slow your opponents energy gaining a little bit for a short time by inflicting damage on them or taunting them.  Super special attacks (like a sky-beam, for example) will use up a full energy bar and will probably be unblockable (but dodgeable).

There will be an arcade mode.  There will also be a survival mode where you only gain a little bit of health back after each fight instead of full health.  There will also be a story mode, where evil characters will be the final bosses.  There will also be a couple of rivalries and sub-stories going on in story mode.  You can also unlock the boss/villain characters and use them in story mode.  There will be an ultimate boss that you can fight after beating every character's story mode.

Bonus bosses can be unlocked after defeating the ultimate boss. These will be characters from the original Sonic series, such as Eggman, some of his robots, Sonic, Shadow, and Knuckles.

You will be able to unlock characters in story mode.  You could also unlock characters in arcade and survival mode by completing certain feats.

Each character will have their own movement, taunt, attack, and idling styles, and each will have their own special attacks.

The current (non-boss) characters that will be in the game are most likely: Lenny, Brego, Dex, Ryu, Moe, and Kanin

The current boss characters that will likely be in the game are: Dante, Sauron, Dark Moe, and Rorto

The current rivalries/boss fights will likely be:
-Lenny Vs. Brego
-Rorto Vs. Dante
-Moe Vs. Sauron
-Kanin Vs. Sauron

If you guys want to go ahead and start describing your characters, their fighting styles (like what moves they have), their movement and idle styles, their taunts, and their special moves you can go ahead. It'll make it easier in the future.

I might let characters with wings fly.

But yeah, the basic attacks will be a punch, a kick, an air kick, an air punch (probably a downward slam for most characters), a block, a dodge, a jump, and a duck. You can make variations of that, but those will be the basic ones (I'll most likely add in combos in the future, but as of right now, that's what I will work on first).

I just finished my first space shooter game. None of the art or sound is mine, but I have made some that I never added into the game. This is just an example of what I can do so far so you guys can check it out.

Also, if you want to delete the saved data for that game, you have to go to the following pathway and then delete "PlayerData.dat"

C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\AppData\LocalLow\DefaultCompany\Space Shooter

I'll probably use a company name like "MattiasRyder" or something for the fighting game so it's easier to find.

Also, the controls are WASD or the arrow keys to move, space to shoot, M to mute the music and sounds, and escape to go to the title screen.

I'm working on the programming now (using programmer/placeholder art (stickmen haha)) and I just realized something that I didn't think about.  Do you think it should be like a strict street fighter/tekken copy, where you are both always facing eachother and only change which direction your facing when you get on the other side of your opponent, or should I make a Super Smash Bros Brawl style game where you can face any direction and there are different platforms and such you could jump on and you can run all over the level and stuff (like a 2D beat 'em up)?  If I do it the second way then I could put in a battle royale type mode where you can fight against multiple people at once.  What do you guys think?  Currently it's like the Smash Bros style, but I just started programming and could quickly change it to a street fighter style.

I'd definitely go with the Super Smash Bros. type game.

With scenes/levels, I've got quite a few:



Ancient Ruins - Level takes place inside some abandoned ruins, apparently in the middle of nowhere where the stone walls have been heavily grown over by nature.

Abandoned Q.M.E Manufacturing facility - Arena is only illuminated by a few lights, some of which flicker and fail to illuminate, where the main platform is a conveyor belt and a few discarded robot parts/disabled Q.M.E units for platforms.

Battleground - Fight takes place in the middle of a battleground between two fighting factions (you can make them up, it really doesn't matter) where shells are being dropped around the arena but not IN it.

Balcony - Takes place atop a very tall tower right on a large balcony that overlooks a huge city/field/etc.

The Arena - Takes place in the middle of a huge stadium (like the one in the Gauntlet will be), with seats completely full, so a full crowd in the background. The arena is also surrounded by a deep pitfall with lava at the bottom.

Odin City - Takes place down a dark, damp alleyway, with only one streetlight in the background illuminating the scene. There's an abandoned, beaten up car in the background with a dumpster that has something suspicious poking out of it (totally not the limb of a dead body or anything).

The plains - In the middle of a deep, near-lifeless barren desert, with bits of scrap metal and a couple of ruins from vehicles scattered across the area, both in the arena and in the background/foreground.


Oh by the way: Chrome has said the game is "Malicious" and has blocked it from letting me play. I dunno why.

I love all of those! And I just thought of one that first appears in the boss fight between Mecha and Sauron! A volcano surrounded by a dark energy dome!

But that's weird, I have no clue why it would do that. Any other websites you guys know of where I could host it and you could download it?
